At the time of this writ- Mother’s Day 2018, I opened one of several daily devotionals I get in my inbox. As you might expect, the author applied relevant Scripture to the day honoring, in particular, godly moms.
While I’m aware one of several English translations I use often stretches in rendering possible meanings of any given verse, I hadn’t recalled noticing this one prior.
The Amplified got me thinking (though not in any way diminishing the fact the context is clearly about godly women) about of one of the listed important, even essential virtues, character traits and practices which indeed applies to any follower of Jesus regardless of gender:
“Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31.30 (AMP)
What leapt out at me was “…who fears the Lord [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect]. WOW. Yes!
If our focus on worshiping God genuinely included such an intentional heart-posture and active practice -and to the degree it did/does, I, the local and larger church and for that matter Christians world-wide would not only be a greater, more powerful witness but those who are often correct in dissing Christians and Christianity would be deeply impacted in a much more positive way.
Who fears the Lord -the ingredients of which are:
-HIM- note… all these relate to relationship to HIM…
With Awe-filled Respect
What a brilliant, illuminating definition of what the authentic fear of God really includes!
Whether praised or rejected what a different Bride we the Church would be before a world in deep need of authentic love and care.
I believe He, therefore this, is worth our time and meditation as well as application.
